Testing methods for rapid and accurate detection of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins
The primary objective of this work is to develop rapid, accurate and inexpensive testing methods to be used in the detection of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins.
The secondary objective of this work is to conduct more rigorous research which will eventually enable more accurate and rapid public advisories of algae bloom occurrences. This research will lead to better management of algae bloom crises by identifying the contributing factors to their proliferation, characterizing the dynamics of cyanobacteria in lakes, and within certain constraints, predicting the occurrence of algae blooms.
The first phase of the project was conducted in conjunction with l'Observation du développement durable of l'Université de Sherbrooke, and further research is ongoing.
